Planned Giving

Creating a Lasting Impact

Arranging a legacy gift may be your best option to simultaneously meet your philanthropic goals and your financial needs. These gifts to the Dartmouth General ensure that our staff can continue to deliver exceptional care, and that our culture of innovation grows for generations.

We are able to accept various giving methods and we can work together to maximize your impact for years to come:

Gift in Will
Leave a gift in your will to make a lasting impact for patients and their families. Ask your lawyer to include an appropriate paragraph in your will for a fixed amount or a percentage of your estate. Your estate will receive a valuable tax credit that will reduce or eliminate income taxes due to your estate. Include Dartmouth General Hospital Charitable Foundation and our registered charity number #BN 12245-5611-RR0001 when providing information. Learn what steps you need to take to leave a charitable gift in your Will here.

Giving through Life Insurance
You can give a gift of life insurance by donating an existing policy or creating a new one and naming the DGH Foundation as the beneficiary. When purchasing a life insurance policy and making a charity both the beneficiary and owner, you will receive a tax receipt for the annual premiums paid. When assigning an existing policy to a charity, you will receive a tax receipt for any cash value in the policy.

Gifts of Securities – Download form here
Securities, including publicly listed stocks, bonds, and mutual funds may be donated directly to the DGH Foundation. If you transfer them directly rather than sell them and donate the proceeds, you will eliminate any capital gains tax otherwise owed. You will also receive a valuable tax credit for the full value of the securities.

Other options include:

  • Charitable Remainder Trusts
  • Bequests
  • RRSPs and RRIFs
